Turn on Litmus notifications for Slack
Overview
The Litmus + Slack integration allows Litmus teams to receive notifications about certain Litmus activities directly in Slack. These notifications can be configured to appear in specific Slack channels and/or delivered to individual team members as direct messages via the Litmus Slack App.
To begin receiving Litmus notifications via Slack, users will need to ensure the Litmus App has first been approved by their Slack Workspace and then log into Litmus to add the Litmus App to Slack. Full details on how to do this are listed in this article.
Allowing Litmus users to access the Litmus + Slack notifications app
Depending on the permissions of your Slack Workspace, you may require an owner/admin to approve the Litmus App for use with your workspace. To do this:
As a Slack Workspace owner/admin:
- Visit the Litmus Slack App Directory listing and click the 'approve for workspace' button
As a Litmus user send a request to your Slack Workspace Admin to request approval by:
- Visiting the Litmus Slack App Directory listing and click the 'Request to Install' button located under the Litmus logo at the top-left of the screen. This will notify the owner(s) of your Slack Workspace you would like to use the app
Once the Litmus App has been approved for your Slack Workspace, Litmus users can log into Litmus, add the app and configure the notifications they would like to receive.
Notification types
There are two distinct types of Slack notifications available:
- Channel Notifications - Improve team collaboration and communication around campaign progress with automatic Litmus notifications posted to the Slack channel you select
- Direct Notifications - Keep informed of all activity that occurs on any campaign you own, as well as when other team members @mention you on projects, with an automatic direct message notification to you in Slack
Channel notifications
- Channel notifications are only configurable by Litmus Account Holders and Admins
- They are configured at an account/subaccount level to allow key notifications to be sent to a Slack channel, reaching all channel subscribers
- Multiple channels can be configured to receive notifications
- Channel notifications are delivered when a new email is ready for review within the 'Previews & QA' or 'Proof' tabs (Litmus Proof is only available on Enterprise plans)
How to configure channel notifications (as a Litmus Account Holder/Admin)
- Ensure that the Litmus app has been approved for install by a Slack Workspace owner/admin (see above section for details)
- In Litmus, visit Settings → Apps → Slack
- Click the 'New Configuration' button on the right side of the screen
On the following screen:
- Choose which Slack Workspace you would like to configure (if multiple are available) from the top-right dropdown menu
- Select the channel you would like to post notifications to from the dropdown in the center of the screen
- Click 'Authorize'
You are all set! The new channel configuration will now be displayed on the Settings → Apps → Slack.
To stop notifications from being sent to a channel, click the trash can icon shown next to the name of the channel.
