Export data from Litmus Email Analytics
The reports available in Email Analytics are a great start to learning more about who is opening and reading your emails. Get the CSV file of your results to put even more actionable data in your hands. There are three different reports available from Email Analytics: the Individual-level data CSV export, the Email client data CSV download, and the Engagement data CSV download.
Exporting your reports
Find your tracking code from the Analytics tab of an email project or when viewing a specific tracking code in Tracking code manager from the top Analytics tab. You can also select View all in the Your recent tracking codes pane to launch the Tracking code manager. Select your tracking code the choose Export from the left menu options.
Individual-level data report
This file contains very detailed information—it may contain millions of rows of records and be quite large in file size. This report displays one unique open on each row for any email associated with the tracking code. You'll see the time/date stamp in GMT for each open, the unique ID for each recipient (shown in the custom_id field) passed in the merge tag, mail client, engagement, platform, and more. A full description of the fields available in the individual-level tracking report is available.
If you did not include a merge tag in your tracking code, you'll still see each open, but there will be no data in the custom_id field. Similarly, if you included a campaign ID, custom parameter, or other secondary identifier, you'll find that in the custom_type column.

If your export email has not arrived within the ETA we provided on the export page, check our status page for any delays, and also ensure that your local email settings allow for .zip or .csv downloads. Some workplaces may block emails that contain these links. If you know that your workplace does block these kinds of links, contact your IT team to change this setting for you.
Alternatively, you can send your CSV download emails to a different email address if you are not receiving your emails at your primary address. An Account Holder or Admin can add your additional email address as a Read-Only user on the account. You'll then be able to select this address from the dropdown list when exporting your CSV.
Email client data report
This file contains aggregated email client usage information across any email associated with your tracking code. This information is broken down by the mail clients used and summarizes the total number of opens Email Analytics collected for each email client.
total_opens | mail_client | mail_client_detail | platform |
---|---|---|---|
1794 | Outlook.com |
Using Explorer | desktop |
151 | Apple Mail | Apple Mail 5 | desktop |
44 | Google Android |
Android | mobile |
2 | Gmail | Using iPhone | mobile |
In the above example, we see 1,794 opens in Outlook.com when the user accessed their mail using the Internet Explorer browser, 151 opens from Apple Mail version 5, 44 opens from the default mail client on an Android device, and 2 opens from Gmail when accessed from an iPhone's browser rather than the mail app installed by default on the device.

Engagement data report
This file contains aggregated engagement information across any email associated with your tracking code. This information is broken down by the mail clients used and summarizes the total number of opens Email Analytics collected for each of three categories: glanced, read, and skimmed. It also includes which platform (mobile, desktop or webmail) that we classify the mail client under.
mail_client | mail_client_detail | engagement | total_opens | platform |
---|---|---|---|---|
Outlook | Outlook 2010 | read | 592 | Desktop |
Outlook | Outlook 2010 | skimmed | 275 | Desktop |
Outlook | Outlook 2010 | glanced | 28 | Desktop |
In the above example, this means that for Outlook 2010, Email Analytics detected 592 users that 'read' the email (viewed for 8+ seconds), 275 that 'skimmed' (viewed for 2-8 seconds), and 28 that 'glanced' (viewed for 2 seconds or less). No merge data is included in this report.
