Plain text and mixed HTML email versions
Litmus allows you to test and proof plain text versions of your email if your ESP provides a multipart MIME message. This is done through a plain text preview we provide in the previews and QA section of Litmus.
Plain text version test
To test the plain text version of your email, use your Litmus test address to send in your email from your email service provider (ESP). This typically ensures you have a multipart MIME message sent to Litmus, which will include your HTML and plain text for your test.
If Litmus does not detect a plain text version of your email, the Plain Text preview option will not appear in the Other category of your email client selection pane.
Plain text proof
NOTE: Litmus Proof is available on Enterprise plans.
This particular Preview shows how clients that don't have HTML email support would show your email, or how your email would appear if a user had disabled HTML emails in their client.
Some ESPs provide separate plain text version and HTML versions of your email. In that case, we recommend sending each version to your unique Litmus test address. Use your unique Litmus test address to create two separate proofs: one for the plain-text version and one for the HTML version of your email. You'll see these as two different proofs in your Litmus account.
