Edit your email's subject line and preview text

Your email's subject line and preview text are the core elements of your envelope content. Writing compelling envelope content that resonates with your audience is critical to maximizing subscriber engagement. Writing and editing subject lines and preview text is easy and straightforward in Litmus Builder.

Subject line in the code editor

If your subject line is empty, select the  Add link to write your subject line. Use the green Save button or Enter on your keyboard to save the new subject line. Select the Edit link to the right of your subject line to make any changes and save when you're done.

The subject line field includes a character counter and allows 100 characters maximum. Engagement best practice suggests a 50-character subject line. If your subject line exceeds the 50-character threshold, you'll see an alert in Builder.

You can also include a merge tag from your ESP to personalize your subject line. Select the personalization icon to display a list of merge tags from your selected ESPs.

When you're ready, select the  Update Previews & QA or Update Proof and Previews green button in the upper right corner of your Litmus project window to update those areas.

Preview text in the code editor

Add preview text directly in the code editor. The preview pane will show your email's preview text update in real time as you make code changes.

When you're ready, select the  Update Previews & QA or Update Proof and Previews green button in the upper right corner of your Litmus project window to update those areas.
