Manage tracking code filter tags

Litmus Email Analytics allows you to add tags to your tracking codes so you can filter analytics data in groups you find useful. Tags can be added when the tracking code is created, when it is active, or even after it is expired. The tags can also be removed from tracking codes under all the same conditions.

Add a filter tag

You can add one or more tags in step 2 when you create a new tracking code. Any filter tags you already created can be applied by selecting them. You can type in a new filter tag in the data field and select Add tag to apply them and add them to your tag library.

You can also add tags after the tracking code is created whether it's in draft mode, active or expired. In Tracking code manager, select a code and choose the tag+ icon in the upper left of the pane. A modal will appear for you to select an existing filter tag or type in a new one.

Another option to add a filter tag is to select Edit tracking code and include your filter tag choices in the edit modal. Any tags that have already been applied are visible in the upper left of the tracking code information window.

Remove filter tags

Filter tags must be removed individually from tracking codes. In order to delete a filter tag, use the Edit tracking code button, scroll to the filter tags, and select the x to delete the tag. Your tracking code will automatically update and you can close the edit modal when you're done. You will see the deleted code is no longer visible in the tracking code's information window.

IMPORTANT: Remove tags from tracking codes before deleting them. Otherwise the filter tags will remain in your available tags list.

Find tags to remove

There are two ways to find tracking codes that have tags you no longer wish to use.

  1. Aggregate report: Create an aggregate report that filters for the tag you want to remove. This is a useful method if you want to remove a tag from tracking codes within a range of dates.

aggregate report setup with custom date range option expanded and circled

  2. Tracking code manager: Use the View tags button in the upper right of the tracking code manager window. Enter a tag and select the link. Depending on the number of tracking codes that use the filter, you may need to wait a few seconds for Litmus to find all of them. Every tracking code that includes the filter tag you chose will be displayed.

IMPORTANT: There is no bulk delete option for filter tags. To remove a tag from your collection, it must be removed individually from each tracking code that uses it.

With either option to find the tags, you can delete the filter tags immediately.

However, we recommend that you open each tracking code in a new window, delete the tag(s), and continue with the next code if you have a significant number of tracking codes to edit.
