Tool Retirement Guide: PutsMail, Scope, and Gmail category tab test
Overview
Litmus PutsMail, Litmus Scope, and the Gmail category tab test will be retired on September 30, 2025. The platform powering these tools is no longer supported, which prevents our ability to provide updated and reliable service. Therefore, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire these tools.
This guide outlines what’s changing, what you need to do (if anything), and what alternatives exist within Litmus today for each specific tool.
If you have questions or need help transitioning away from any of these tools, please reach out. We’re here to help.
PutsMail
PutsMail is an email testing tool that lets users send test HTML emails for cross-platform testing and proofing.
PutsMail will be retired on September 30, 2025. Please transition your process as soon as possible. After this date, the tool, along with past tests, will no longer be accessible.
Alternative:
For Litmus customers, you can send test emails directly from Litmus Builder:
- Paste your HTML into Builder and send tests to anyone on your account
- Add stakeholders as read-only users - don’t count toward your user limit
Scope
Scope is a free tool that allows users to create a shareable, read-only version of any email in Gmail.
Litmus Scope will be retired on September 30, 2025. After this date, the tool will no longer be accessible and any data stored in it (including Scoped emails and HTML) will not be accessible. Links to Scoped emails will also no longer work.
If you have Scoped emails you would like to save, follow these steps to download the HTML:
- Open your Scope view
- Toggle to the code view
- Copy the HTML to store or reuse elsewhere
Alternative:
If you're a Litmus user, you can paste this HTML into Litmus Builder and create a public share link to replicate the same functionality.
Gmail category tab test
The Gmail category tab test tool lets users know which Gmail category their emails are likely to appear in.
The Gmail category tab test tool will be retired on September 30, 2025 and will no longer be accessible.
Alternative:
If you're on a Litmus Plus or Enterprise plan, run a spam test to view Gmail tab placement directly within your spam test results. This gives you an accurate view of how your email appears in the real Gmail inbox.
