Customize your personalized image

Change your background, insert your merge tag, add a custom font - make your personalized image just what you need! Your personalized image's default name is the template name but you can edit it to whatever you prefer by selecting the name on the top left.

Background image

You can upload a background image to your template. If your background image is transparent, use the color palette to fill in the surrounding space with a color you can select. The background color cannot be used independently.

If you are using a custom image rather than one of our pre-made templates, select the image and then Upload background image on the right to add a custom image.

NOTE: For background images, we recommend using PNG files rather than JPEGs. JPEG files require additional image conversion which may result in the file size limit being exceeded even for files that are uploaded below the size limit (up to 1200x1200 or 1MB). In general, it is best practice to use the smallest size you can for your design.

Merge tags and dynamic text

Select the text box or the {{first name}} text layer to edit and customize your message. {{firstname}} is simply a placeholder so you can test your dynamic content when you preview on the next step. In the last step you’ll be able to update your merge tag to whatever you’d like. You can add multiple merge tag placeholders using the Add dynamic text function.

Text Options

Use the right side panel to customize the font, size, color, alignment and position of the text.

You can choose from one of the font options already available or upload a custom font.

The X and Y coordinates allow you to move your box to an exact position on your canvas/background image.

Use Width and Height options to change the size of the text box. You can utilize this to control text wrapping. The width is fixed at what you set, but the height will still be variable even if you have a set height, meaning that your text will not be cut off if it does not fit in the box.

The Skew and Rotate options allow you to manipulate the text to better fit with your background.

Add a custom TTF font

If you would like to use a custom font, you can upload a font file (TTF font files are supported). In the Text style section select Upload font.

NOTE: Your custom font name will appear in the list with the same file name you upload.

Once your font has been uploaded, you can select it from the Font family dropdown. Your uploaded font will be available in the Custom fonts section of the list and can be used in any other widget that has custom font capability.

Add more text layers

Use the Add text button at the top center of the personalized image builder to add additional lines of text. Each line can be independently styled and located. Layers can be selected in the left pane for editing or deleting.

Preview your image

When you are ready, select Next: Preview your image. Enter a value for your merge tag to test the image's appearance when those tags are populated with data. These are placeholder values and won’t affect your code.

If your image is set up and ready, select Next: Save and get HTML to generate your tag. You can copy the tag using the button below the text box, and your new image will appear in the Personalized images section of the Personalize tab in your account.

Make sure to add your merge tags to this HTML code in your ESP to ensure the subscriber's unique values appear!

Add your personalized image to an email

To add a personalized image to your email, simply copy the HTML tag for your image and replace MERGE_YOUR_VALUE with the relevant merge tags from your ESP. You can then add the completed tag directly to your email's code. You can quickly copy the tag by hovering over the image's thumbnail and selecting Copy HTML. You can also edit the personalized image title from your library view.

If you've set up your ESP merge tags in your account, you can quickly add those merge tags with the Insert->Merge tag functionality in Litmus Builder. You can then preview your personalization using the Personalization tab in Builder.

NOTE: Adding ESP merge tags and previewing personalization are features available with Litmus Enterprise subscriptions.

You can also add the image with Visual Editor in Litmus Builder using the image link from the HTML code rather than the entire tag. Copy the image link, add your merge tag, and use Visual Editor to replace a placeholder image with your personalized image.

Impression usage

A personalized image is a single image, so any time one is loaded this will count as one impression.

NOTE: Impressions usage limits vary based on your subscription. Learn more about usage limits and how impressions are counted to make sure you understand how your tag will impact your usage!
