Sentiment trackers guide

Listen to your audience with sentiment trackers! A sentiment tracker is a live poll that your subscribers can interact with that will display current results when an email is opened. For example, you can engage your audience by inviting them to weigh in on the value each email delivers.

Create a sentiment tracker

Sentiment trackers are located in the Personalized content section of the Litmus platform. Start from the Overview page using the Sentiment trackers block, or select Sentiment trackers from the left menu where you can create a new tracker or find your library of trackers.

Configure your tracker

Add required URLs in the right side pane where your subscribers will be redirected after making their choice. You can use different URLs or use the same one for each option. Your tracker's default name is the template name but you can edit it to whatever you prefer by choosing the name on the top left.

NOTE: You can get additional analytics data from external sources with your sentiment tracker.

Include your tracking URL from services like Google Analytics or your ESP as the option URL in your sentiment tracker. Your tracking parameters will be invisibly included in the final widget code.

Clicks on your sentiment tracker will appear in the View report area. Tracking from your external sources will be available in their usual reporting areas.

Style your tracker

Customize your sentiment tracker's prompt. You can select different fonts for your prompt and for your results if the template shows them.

Add a custom TTF font

If you would like to use a custom font, you can upload a font file (TTF font files are supported). In the Font section, select Upload font.

NOTE: Your custom font name will appear in the list with the same file name you upload.

Once your font has been uploaded, you can select it from the Font family dropdown. Your uploaded font will be available in the Custom fonts section of the list and can be used in any other widget that has custom font capability.

Preview and test

Select the green Next: Preview your sentiment tracker button in the upper right corner when your tracker looks just right.

To test, enter numbers in the field for each option to preview how your sentiment tracker will appear as subscribers interact with it. These are placeholder values and won't affect your code. If you want to make any changes, choose the Back to editing button. If you're satisfied with the tracker, select Next: Save and get HTML in the upper right corner. Your sentiment tracker code will be generated.

Impression usage

A sentiment tracker may use between 2 and 5 images depending on the number of options in your poll. Each image appearing in your tracker will count as an impression.

NOTE: Impressions usage limits vary based on your subscription. Learn more about usage limits and how impressions are counted to make sure you understand how your tag will impact your usage!

Apple Mail Privacy Protection (MPP)

When an email is sent to an inbox with MPP enabled, email images are automatically downloaded and cached. The cached images are then displayed when the email is opened. Due to this, sentiment trackers will display the percentages as they were at the time of your send for users with MPP enabled.

We recommend staggering your sends when using sentiment trackers. This will allow some poll results to be gathered before the images are cached for segments of your subscribers. MPP-impacted opens count towards impression usage.
